The Rock of Sigiriya

Sigiriya is an old fort built on a High Natural rock with a long history. Located in the Dambulla area of the ​​Matale district of Sri Lanka, this Sigiriya fort is approximately 200 meters high. Due to its natural value and its historical and artistic importance, Sigiriya has also been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Although primary historical sources state that Sigiriya Fort was built by King Kasyapa V, various legends and scholars believe that Sigiriya has a long history beyond the time of King Kasyapa V.
Sigiriya Rock has several different names. Some of them include The Alakamandawa, The Sinhapura, The Giri Balakotuwa, etc.

Also, although Sigiriya was built on a natural rock, the value of its historical creations cannot be underestimated. That is, there is still an archaeological question about the basis of those historical creations and technologies.

Currently, only 22 murals can be found in Sigiriya. But according to a Kurutugi (Inscriptions) written around the 8th century AD, it states that 502 paintings of Sigiriya frescoes (women's paintings) were found. Also

Roads to Sigiriya and other information 

Sigiriya is located in the village of Kimbissa in the Dambulla area of ​​the Matale District and there are several ways to reach the Sigiriya historical tourist spot. Sigiriya can be reached by public transport buses, trains, and hired or private vehicles.
When coming to Sigiriya by public transport bus, Tourists traveling from Colombo to Sigiriya can reach Dambulla city by buses transport Anuradhapura -Colombo. Anuradhapura-Colombo Details of bus schedules and bookings seats can be obtained from the Colombo Fort Bus Stand. Sigiriya can be reached by another bus from Dambulla.
For tourists arriving at Sigiriya by train,  there is no direct train to Dambulla,
Tourists traveling from Colombo to Sigiriya can take the train from Colombo Fort Railway Station to Habarana Railway Station. You can reach Sigiriya from Habarana Railway Station. The distance from Habarana Railway Station to Sigiriya is about 18 km.
The distance from Colombo to Dambulla Town is About 170 km.
