Seruvila Mangala Great Stupa  has treasured "lalata" ( forehead relic of Lord Buddha) relics of Lord Buddha. Also, a part of the hair relic that Lord Buddha gave to the two merchants Tapastapassu-Bhalluka during his lifetime is treasured in this Seruvila Mangala Mahasaya. 
It is said in history that this Seruwila Mangala Great Stupa was built by King Kawantissa, who reigned in the Ruhunu Kingdom, an old kingdom of Sri Lanka, and Seruwila Sacred place can be called a Buddhist temple with many other historical significances.
